Is Homeschooling a Yea or Nay for Your Family?

Black Family Homeschooling

The short answer whether you should consider homeschooling is Yea! You’re not alone seeking an answers to questions to help you make a decision. You are probably wondering if you are educated enough, if you have the time, and what to do when you don’t know the answers. You simply need to start and it will work out for you and your child.

Your education

You can homeschool without a degree in teaching however, most states will require that you have a high school diploma or GED. Find out the requirements for your state at https://www.hslda.org/laws/

Most importantly, you need to have a desire to educate your child in the best way possible. As a parent, you know your child better than anybody else so why should your child’s education be any different?

How to Teach Topics You Are Not Familiar With

Every homeschool parents worries about teaching a topic that they may not be familiar with. This sometimes causes a certain degree of hesitation about homeschooling on the parents part because they don’t know how they can help the child learn when they can’t understand it.

Here Are Some Ideas and Tips

You can work with other homeschool parents in your community who homeschool as well. A parent might be willing to let your child sit in on a class that they teach and in exchange, you allow her child to sit in on a class that you can teach.

You can find all kinds of online courses that can teach your child or provide you with additional resources to help your child learn.

If you are not able to partner with other homeschool parents and can’t find any online courses for your child, you can learn the topic first and then teach your child. You may find online courses for adults or you can find videos and educational material to help you understand the topic. You can also use their book to study and educate yourself.

There will be times when your child will ask a question that you don’t know the answer to. This happens to homeschooling parents everywhere. The good news is that you can most likely find the answers on the internet. If you are teaching from books or an online course, the companies offer forums to assist you with any questions you or your child may have.

Do I have the Time it Takes to Homeschool?

It really doesn’t take a full day to homeschool unless you want it to. Unlike public school, your child doesn’t have the transportation time invested in their school day and lunch breaks can vary during your day. Your child may need several breaks during the day or your child may want to keep going once they start their lessons. A homeschool schedule will vary for everyone.

Sit down with your family and list all the obligations that you currently have, including work schedules. Map out your homeschool schedule based on your open times. You may want to homeschool all day long but in reality, you may be able to do two subjects in the morning and three subjects when you get home from work.

Don’t Compare Your Children with Other Children Their Age

In reality, all parents of homeschooled children will doubt their abilities from time to time. You may observe other children their age and think your child is falling behind or is not adding up. The truth is, your child is learning everyday and at his or her own pace. Homeschool parents are very hard on themselves but you have to know that you are already providing a better future for your child with the most important requirement….your time.
